[advance] · The title of our research is: Insights into beginning teacher and mentor experiences [advance] Personal Reflection: (3 min total) · Recognizing that it's been a long day we would like to wake you up a bit and put you into the right frame of mind for our topic · We would like to do a Think Pair Share activity [advance] · With a partner, first individually [advance] “Think about a relationship that has changed your teaching career” then share this memory with your partner. · We will ask a few pairs to share with the entire group after about a minute. [advance] We hope that this activity would bring you closer to our provocative question that was the basis of our research. · The question of [advance] “What are teacher's experiences with induction?” AHA Moments: (2 min total) · As all of you probably experienced, the path to discovery is long and windy and sometimes even circular. · We thought we would preface our results with what we discovered in the end [advance] these are what Elaine called the AHA moments. · The three aha moments that we wanted to share with you are: [advance] 1. Establishing relationships is the foundation for teacher success · By this we not only mean teacher-student relationships, but the relationships between colleagues sharing knowledge and experiences with each other. 2. Learning is not linear · During our research we would go back and forth with ideas often finding ourselves right back where we started. However, we didn’t find this to be a waste of our time, but a necessary step to fully appreciate where we were with our understanding at the time 3. Everyone is a lifelong learner · This idea came from the realization that anyone can be at a stage where something is new and unknown regardless of age, experience or expertise in another field. · We feel that these three statements encompass what was conveyed in our research. Moreover the power in these statements was evident from our own experience in performing the research itself. In looking externally at one aspect of teacher learning we realized that we were also looking inwardly at our own practice. · Agata will now share with you more details about our research
